Rugged
and Specialty Scanners Warehouses, manufacturing facilities,
supply yards, and retailers demand rugged or specialty bar code scanners
— built to withstand heavy use and the harshest conditions. Rugged
scanners are sealed to some of the highest standards in the industry
and subjected to numerous tumble and drop tests. They can even capture
one-dimensional (1D) bar codes when they’re dirty, damaged, poorly
printed or at varying distances. Specialty Scanners are used for extra
long range scanning applications, 2-D bar codes, omni-directional applications
and memory scanning. Motorola's P370 (pictured below left), a limited
range "portable" scanner, is a wireless unit that can be used
within 100 feet of its base.

Mobile Computers
More than just portable terminals, mobile computers are the overall
choice for industrial data collection. Mobile computers are true, handheld
computers that come with or without an integrated laser scanner or imager
for enterprise-wide data collection needs. Mobile computers operate in
real time or batch mode and move with your employees to speed decisions,
improve performance and increase productivity.
Across virtually every industry -- from retail,
manufacturing, and healthcare to transportation, government and wholesale
distribution -- mobile computers are streamlining business processes through
data automation to eliminate errors and eradicate information processing
delays. Applications are numerous and include receiving, shipping, inventory
(physical or cycle), asset tracking, route accounting, work-in-process,
patient management and drug administration.
With proven results and clear ROI, companies no longer
ask "if" mobile computing should be implemented to automate
processes, but "where and how."
